Server, network, and telephony administration
Computer Services designs, supports and maintains the communication systems, network, and telephony infrastructure for the campus. We assist with user account creation and access, maintaining file and application servers, data backups, and data restoration. We ensure the integrity of the UW Wireless network, which is available in all campus buildings and most outdoor gathering locations. WIFI coverage includes but is not limited to Prairie Line Trail, Gillenwater Plaza, the Grand Staircase, and the Cragle parking lot. A high-speed, wired (Ethernet) network is provided to offices, classrooms, and lab spaces. We oversee and manage the UW VoIP phone system. UW phones can be installed at any location that has a UW wired network. For information on UW accounts, installation, activation, and connecting to the wired, wireless network, or phone services please send an email to tachelp@uw.edu with a brief description of your needs and contact information.
Helpdesk, desktop support, software/hardware purchasing and classroom and lab support
The HelpDesk provides technical and customer support to UW Tacoma students, faculty, and staff as a single point of contact. You can access our services via phone, live chat, walk-in, or by emailing us at tachelp@uw.edu.
Computer Services provides all aspects of desktop support to support the day-to-day work of the campus community. Services range from software installation, device training, and support, equipment repair, printing, to purchasing of hardware and software licensing and inventory. Additionally, we oversee the acquisition and installation of open computer labs, classroom and lab software, and hardware. We provide consultative services to facilitate customers’ exploration, use, or adoption of existing and new technologies to best suit their business and academic teaching needs.
If you are interested in purchasing hardware or software, encounter a technical issue or would like to learn more about our services or team, please contact us by submitting a help request or email tachelp@uw.edu
Classroom/conference room A/V remodeling
Computer Services designs, installs, tests, and maintains AV equipment for classrooms, conference rooms, event spaces, and new construction projects.
This consists of determining equipment needs, purchasing equipment, and installing the equipment. We also troubleshot and identify failure points in complex A/V equipment and are responsible for coordinating the acquisition of equipment and repairs/replacements. Computer Services plays a central role in determining network and electrical needs for classroom remodels, new classroom installations, and new building & space construction.
