The Student Assisting Business(SAB) program employs Milgard School of Business students part-time to assist with special projects at no cost to the company. The SAB program is a direct example of the mission of the Milgard School in that it is at its very core an innovative community engaged program that is socially responsible. By funding the student workers compensation through scholarships, the business community is supported financially to accomplish their many and diverse goals and needs.

How can Student Assisting Business(SAB) help me?

SAB is able to consult with the business to help determine what needs assessment and provide support to draft a working project, if you haven't already.

Does SAB provide consulting?

Yes, SAB also helps in formulating vision for project based needs. 

Do I interview the students?

SAB can arrange interview or informed meeting depending on preference.

How are students selected?

Students are selected based on interest in the program, fit in the organization, quality of academic performance and professional experiences.

Will students have the experience in the work I need?

Possibly, as a student supported program, many students are seeking experience and will be learners in the process.

Does my organization need to provide training to the students?

Training is not mandatory but depending on project and student fit, various degrees of engagement will be necessary.

What if student's work does not meet our requirements?

While we make every effort to find students that will match the expectations but if problem exists, you are in no obligation to continue SAB project.

Do I have to pay payroll taxes, workers compensation or other employer related compensation to students?

No, for legal and tax purposes, student is considered employee of UW.

Am I the employer on record?

No, employer on record is UW.

Helping get business back on its feet. Theresa Smith, VP and Resource Development Officer of Evergreen Business Capital in Washington state, described how the institution worked with the Milgard School of Business, U of Washington Tacoma, on CARES Act applications for nearby small cities.

Smith stated: "The students were great. They helped us advance our work in processing loans for small businesses, and helped the community at the same time."
