The Office of Research dedicates this page to recognizing our campus partners who together form a vital network of support for scholarly research and publicly engaged scholarship across the UW Tacoma campus.
Cheryl Greengrove, Associate Vice Chancellor for Research (AVCR)
Dr. Greengrove is an Associate Professor of Geosciences in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (SIAS) and was one of the first two science faculty hired at UW Tacoma in 1996. She has held several leadership positions on campus including twice as the Interim Dean/Director of SIAS. Dr. Greengrove has successfully secured over $2.5 million in external research funding from federal agencies and local foundations to support her primary research focus, which is the study of harmful algal blooms in PNW estuaries and pedagogy in science education.
She was appointed UW Tacoma's AVCR in Spring 2020. This is a newly designed, part time position that plays a central role in our collaborative organizational structure supporting research and scholarship across the campus. In addition to helping to define this new role, Dr. Greengrove's initial priorities will be to
- Raise visibility of research and scholarship across the campus
- Promote and facilitate research and scholarly collaboration and work to leverage resources from across campus to support research/scholarship
- Collaborate with other units on campus and at UW to enhance the support for research/scholarship
- Act as a connector and catalyst

Its main responsibility is to ensure faculty have a direct role in shared governance related to issues pertaining to research and scholarship. RAC has five members among full-time UW Tacoma faculty appointed by Executive Council. The Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and the Office of Research Director are ex-officio members of the committee Current RAC members are:
- Peter Selkin - School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences, SAM Division
- Sonia De La Cruz - School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences, CAC Division
- Heather Dillon - School of Engineering & Technology
- Alison Cardinal - School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences, CAC Division
