Latest updates
- The UW is changing COVID-19 policies after the end of spring quarter. Learn more.
Masks remain recommended in facilities where they aren't otherwise required.
The University of Washington's coronavirus webpage is also updated frequently as new information is available.
Masks available
KN95 face masks are available to students, faculty and staff at the University YMCA Student Center or the Library Help Desk in Snoqualmie while supplies last. Surgical masks are available at the West Coast Grocery Convenience Store at no charge. Limit one per person.
COVID-19 vaccine
UW Medicine has developed a guide to the COVID-19 vaccine and answers to common questions. At this time the vaccine is available to anyone 6 months of age or older at no cost. Appointments available at UW Medicine and many other providers. Pierce County also has a website with vaccine information and local availability.
In order to protect the health and safety of our community, the University of Washington is requiring all students and personnel to be vaccinated against COVID-19, with certain exemptions allowed. You need to verify that you’ve been vaccinated or declare an exemption.
When should you report a case?
UW Environmental Health & Safety, in coordination with local and state public health agencies, responds to suspected and confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the UW community and takes action to prevent further transmission.
The public health response activities include a case interview, risk assessment, providing guidance for self-isolation, notifications to those impacted and contact tracing.
To help you determine when and how to report, view the COVID-19 Guidance Flowchart.
For more details about UW’s reporting requirements, see COVID-19 Case Response.
Academics
We request that instructors be flexible about student absences due to illness or other coronavirus-related disruptions, including the need to quarantine or because of closures to caregiving services that may affect students who are caregivers. And while instructors should work to find typical and appropriate ways for students to make up missed coursework, please understand that faculty are not required to provide a remote option for classes that are being taught in person.
Accommodations can be requested by those with health-related conditions or needs that put them at heightened risk.
Facilities and learning spaces
Campus offices are expected to be open from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday. Some offices may open earlier or remain open later. Main entrances to campus buildings are open Monday - Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Secondary doors require swiping your Husky Card for access. See the building access map for door locations.
UW Tacoma's Integrated Facilities Management works closely with EH&S to adjust building ventilation systems as public health guidelines evolve. UW Facilities has produced an overview of the measures undertaken to improve ventilation in campus buildings.
Air purifiers
The portable air purifiers around campus will remain in use through this academic year. These units are maintained by Integrated Facilities Management.
