David Boe is a licensed architect who has been practicing in Tacoma since 1989. He is the Principal of BOE architects – a small architectural studio that works on a wide range of commercial and institutional projects throughout Western Washington. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Iowa State University and studied at the Architectural Associate in London, UK where he received his RIBA Certificate.
David’s Urban Design Blog ‘Imagine Tacoma’ was a bi-weekly column that ran from 2008-2010. The blog received an AIA Merit Award in 2009 for creating vibrant discourse about the urban environment through his creative design ‘insertions’ into Downtown Tacoma. He is a frequent lecturer on urban design issues and leads popular architecture walks around Tacoma.
David served on the Tacoma City Council for 6-years (2010-2015) after serving on the Tacoma Planning Commission for the previous 5-years – thus bringing both practical design and policy governance to his views regarding past and current urban design modifications.
Since 2018, David has been a part-time instructor teaching within the Urban Design Studio.
