Ashley Richards, graduating this year with a B.A. in Sustainable Urban Development from UW Tacoma’s Urban Studies Program, with Global Honors distinction, has been named to the 2019 Husky 100.
The university-wide honor recognizes graduate and undergraduate students who are making the most of their time at UW.
In an excerpt from her application for the Husky 100, Richards, who came to UW Tacoma from White River High School, spoke of the community she has found on campus:
“As an undergraduate student, finding outlets of involvement that aligned with my passions was a challenge at first, but during my sophomore year I found my place of belonging and knew that UW Tacoma was my forever home away from home. As I approach graduation and prepare to go into a career in community development and planning, my Husky experience influences my decision to continue my education to a global scale and serve others throughout my future career.”
Richards is currently serving as a research fellow on the Action Mapping Project, directed by Urban Studies Associate Professor Matt Kelley. The project gives Tacoma’s K-12 students a voice in community development by teaching them how to map their knowledge of their neighborhoods.
There are six UW Tacoma students in the 2019 Husky 100, including Katalina Biondi, B.S. Computer Science & Systems; Mira Farrow, M.A. Interdisciplinary Studies; Isabell Murray, B.A. Law & Policy, Global Honors; Norma Purdom, MSW, Social Work; and Long Tran, B.A. Communication and Gender & Sexuality Studies, Global Honors.
