Historically, the legal profession has been one of the least diverse professions in the nation. It continues to be so, according to a recent survey produced by the American Bar Association.
The UW Tacoma Legal Pathways program is working to help change that.
The Legal Pathways Fellows program supports University of Washington Tacoma students alumni in pursuing admission to law school. Costs associated with the law school application process, as well as a lack of resources to attend costly LSAT preparation classes, are a significant factor in hindering the application to law school by students from underrepresented groups, including first generation college students, students who are part of underrepresented minority groups, and formerly incarcerated students. The Legal Pathways Fellows program provides LSAT preparation, mentorship, and law school application support to University of Washington Tacoma students and alumni seeking admission to law school.
Legal Pathways Fellows participants will receive a full scholarship for a commercial LSAT preparation course and participate in application workshops. Participants will also receive a mentor from the legal community and meet monthly with the Legal Pathways program director. The cost of all activities associated with the program will be provided by the Legal Pathways program.
