Another record enrollment at UW Tacoma -- again!

For the sixth straight year, UW Tacoma has hit a record high enrollment. When autumn quarter begins tomorrow, Sept. 29, an estimated 3,300 students will count themselves UW Tacoma Huskies.

In 2005 enrollment reached 2,180. The following year UW Tacoma enrolled freshmen and sophomores for the first time, which led a enrollment bump of 2,292. Enrollment has continued to climb further up the chart each year. Last year's official fall enrollment was 3,111, which was about a 5 percent increase. At 3,300 this fall, that will equate to another 6 percent increase in student headcount.

This year's final numbers will be released in mid-October, when university officials make an official head count.

New to UW Tacoma in 2010-11

• The Student Health Services facility, where students can receive treatment for minor ailments and injuries. Services are provided by Franciscan Medical Group and paid for with student fees.
• A criminal justice degree, housed in the Social Work program, begins this autumn quarter. UW Tacoma's criminal justice degree is unlike any other. The program helps students understand crime and justice from an ecological and social justice perspective.
• UW Tacoma was recently recognized as a "military-friendly" campus and included in the 2010 Military Friendly Schools list, an annual ranking of the top 15 percent of U.S. colleges offering opportunities and support for the military.
• Early in 2011, the Joy Building will open. This is the last of the historic warehouse buildings to be transformed into modern classrooms, office space and retail stores. The Joy Building will complete the university's face on Pacific Avenue.
• In spring, the university will break ground on a building on Jefferson Street, adjacent to the Tioga Building. The new-construction building will add much-needed growing space for the Library and other campus units.
