Hey everyone! My name is Samyak Jain and I’m a senior majoring in Computer Science and pursuing minors in Economics and Informatics. I’m an international student from India and came here about three years ago. One of my main motivations to join the Office of Global Affairs was to help and assist international students in navigating their time here at UW Tacoma. I’ve been in the shoes of international students myself and I know firsthand how intimidating moving to a new country can be. I aim to provide all my support from my previous experiences and help my fellow students to make the most out of their time!
I have always wanted to find and work on different ways that I can contribute to building technological solutions that can ease our daily lives. This motivation has allowed me to gain professional experiences by participating in Internship programs, part-time jobs and even starting a Salesforce club on campus! I’ve been heavily involved on campus by being a part of various committees including STFC (Student Technology Fund Committee)and CSI (Center for Student Involvement). Along with my current position at the OGA, I also am a Teaching Assistant for a CS course which allows me to further connect with students.
I’ve always wanted to travel and live in Europe since a very young age. During my freshmen summer, I found an opportunity to participate in an internship program in Prague, Czech Republic which I’m really thankful for! I lived in Prague for about 2 months and was able to explore and learn about their culture as a local. As I was also working there at the same time, I gained meaningful insights on the work culture in Europe. Feel free to stop by the office to hear more about it!
At the OGA, I work closely with the ISSS and the Study Abroad office. I help to plan out local trips that facilitates the bonding of international and domestic students, participate in study abroad advising, manage social media and much more. I’m always happy to talk about all topics ranging from opportunities to get more involved on campus, how to manage your finances and investments as an international or domestic student, to the different study abroad experiences you can be a part of!
