Office of Research Faculty and Staff
The Office of Research provides support to faculty in all aspects of developing and nurturing individual and collaborative interests in specific research areas and scholarships. Under the leadership of Dr. Andrew Harris, Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and the Office of Research Director, our office offers a flexible and effective infrastructure staffed with an experienced team to meet campus research needs.
Cheryl Greengrove
Associate Vice Chancellor for Research (AVCR)
Dr. Greengrove is an Associate Professor of Geosciences in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (SIAS) and was one of the first two science faculty hired at UW Tacoma in 1996. She has held several leadership positions on campus including twice as the Interim Dean/Director of SIAS. Dr. Greengrove has successfully secured over $2.5 million in external research funding from federal agencies and local foundations to support her primary research focus, which is the study of harmful algal blooms in PNW estuaries and pedagogy in science education. Dr. Greengrove's priorities are:
- Raising visibility of research and scholarship across the campus
- Promoting and facilitating research and scholarly collaboration and work to leverage resources from across campus to support research/scholarship
- Collaborating with other units on campus and at UW to enhance the support for research/scholarship
- Acting as a connector and catalyst

Kelly works directly with Cheryl Greengrove, AVCR, providing support to the Research Advisory Committee and helping with Faculty Development planning and workshop logistics. She also provides support to campus PIs with transactional needs that are tied to sponsored grants or contracts and with internal UW Tacoma funding such as the Founders Endowment.

Daniela works primarily at the Center for Urban Waters and supports both pre and post award grant management activities and regulations associated with research administration.
Kara Luckey
Proposal Development Consultant
Kara provides on-demand support to UW Tacoma faculty across all disciplines with developmental and copy editing of proposal narratives, as well as assistance with articulating project aims, research design, and anticipated impacts. Kara works to develop competitive proposals to a variety of private and public sponsors with investigators coming from diverse theoretical and methodological perspectives including the humanities and social sciences, STEM, and practice-based fields.

How We Can Help
The UW Tacoma Office of Research is committed to assisting faculty in leveraging the rich resources available through the UW Seattle Office of Research and Office of Sponsored Programs, as well as to providing support tailored to the particular context of our campus. Our office specifically supports UW Tacoma faculty in developing sponsored grant and contract proposals through the following services:
- Identifying possible funding opportunities
- Support in reviewing grant submission guidelines and understanding university policies and practices and how they will impact your proposal and submission
- Consultations on project development and conceptualization, in advance of proposal writing, and on research design, methods, and approaches to structuring proposal elements
- Assistance in creating a budget, budget justification, and other supporting documents
- Proposal-writing workshops (offered as part of our Faculty Development Workshops) and peer mentoring groups
- Assistance with submitting proposals for internal review and submission by OSP through SAGE system

Research Advisory Committee (RAC)
Faculty Assembly Research Advisory Committee (RAC)
​RAC is an ad-hoc subcommittee of UW Tacoma Faculty Assembly started in 2019. Its main responsibility is to ensure faculty have a direct role in shared governance related to issues pertaining to research and scholarship. RAC has five members among full-time UW Tacoma faculty appointed by Executive Council. The Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and the Office of Research Director are ex-officio members of the committee. As of September 2024, we are awaiting new nominations for the 2024-25 academic year. Current RAC members are:
