Pranab Baidya knows what it is like to be away from home. Baidya is an international student from Nepal. The UW Tacoma senior is also a resident advisor (RA) at Court 17. The two experiences will likely be useful, especially at the start of the year.
“I think technology could be helpful for anyone who’s feeling homesick,” he said. “There are different festivals in my country where you’re supposed to put a Tika on your forehead. I video chat with my mom and sometimes she just puts the Tika on the webcam and pretends it’s on my head.”
Baidya came to UW Tacoma from Green River College through the urging of a faculty member in the Institute of Technology. His lifelong interest in computers led him to study information technology. “My parents were always heavily invested in computers,” he said. Baidya wants to work as either a database administrator or software developer following graduation.
Baidya has enjoyed his time on campus and that is part of the reason why he decided to become an RA. “It’s been an amazing experience,” he said. “Some of my best friends are people I met here.” Baidya wants to help create that feeling for others. He admits to being a little hesitant but thinks that will go away over time. “I think we just have to trust our guts and trust each other,” he said. “I think we’re going to have a really fun year.”
