Husky Night at the Tacoma Art Museum

Enjoy a free night at the museum gallery with other grads and huskies on May 2nd at 5:00 pm!
Local artist Aisha Harrison has been commissioned to make a sculpture for the University of Washington Tacoma campus that reflects the community of Tacoma and the idea of belonging. Enjoy the museum gallery and while you are there, we invite you to take your “seat at the table,” and sign up to join a workshop at the Tacoma Art Museum to create your “seed” for this permanent sculpture on the UW Tacoma campus.

Husky Night at the NW Sinfonietta
Pre-Concert Preview

Location: Rialto Theater (310 S. 9th St Tacoma, WA 98402)
Arrive by 6:45 pm, then enjoy a program preview with a couple of the NW Sinfonietta concert musicians. Make sure you check in at the UW Tacoma Alumni Relations table and pick up a concessions voucher for a complimentary non-alcohol drink or a snack (please note there a limited number of concession vouchers available). Make sure to take a photo opp selfie in front of our backdrop while you are at the NW Sinfonietta.
NW Sinfonietta Concert

Join fellow grads and Huskies for Husky Night at the Northwest Sinfonietta! Witness the extraordinary double bassist, Xavier Foley as he joins the NW Sinfonietta for the favorite, three B’s— Bach, Beethoven, and…Bass!
The program includes his performance of Bottesini’s virtuosic Gran duo concertante with Concertmaster Denise Dillenbeck, and his own sweeping composition, For Justice and Peace. Also included are Clarice Assad’s Suite for Lower Strings. Each playful movement highlights famous and recognizable themes by J.S. Bach in this fantasy suite. To close the season, Artistic Partner Jeffery Meyer leads the orchestra in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, a sublime epic filled with Beethoven’s optimism in the face of adversity, and ultimately hope for the future.
Use the discount code “NWSLUVSHUSKIES” and student tickets are only $5- All UWT students should select the Student (under 21) option; Faculty, staff, and alumni can get standard tickets for just $15 (tickets are normally $22-$55). Securing your ticket ensures your name is placed on the VIP list so that you may also gain entrance to a special pre-concert reception at the nearby Broadway Gallery (details above). Space is limited for the pre-concert reception.

In honor of Asian and Pacific American Heritage Month, alumnus and filmmaker Nuk Suwanchote will screen his new short film about the Asian American experience at UW Tacoma, Horizon Identities. Suwanchote revisited his alma mater to explore the growing community of Asia Pacific Island students, staff and faculty on the Tacoma campus. This group discussed the complexities of growing up bicultural in a diverse city like Tacoma and how a college campus can be a natural environment to explore identity.
