At ASUWT, we recognize that there is much need to address the various aspects of the campus experience here at UW Tacoma. To better address these concerns, we are excited to announce the formation of three new Taskforces aimed at improving Health & Wellness, Student Safety, and Food Security & Basic Needs on campus.
The Health & Wellness Taskforce, led by ASUWT President Holly Wetzel, aims to enhance the overall well-being of students by addressing mental health, physical health, and access to wellness resources. The Student Safety Taskforce, led by Director of University Affairs Roland Heyne, focuses on ensuring a safe and secure campus environment for all students. Finally, the Food Security & Basic Needs Taskforce, also led by Holly Wetzel, is dedicated to tackling food insecurity on campus and addressing the basic needs of students to ensure everyone has access to the essentials needed for academic success.
Each of these Taskforces will be staffed by this year's ASUWT Senators. This approach serves as a proof of concept to laying the groundwork for the establishment of dedicated staff positions in the coming academic years.
"The creation of Taskforces brings ASUWT into a new sophisticated era where we are more aligned with our sister student government at UW Seattle and their various departments and commissions," says ASUWT President Holly Wetzel.
The Taskforces have begun their work in the Fall Quarter, focusing on investigative efforts in their respective areas. After gaining a better understanding of the issues on campus, the Taskforces will gather comprehensive student input to understand what students want and need to be successful here at UW Tacoma.
Stay tuned for updates on the progress and initiatives of our Taskforces as they work diligently to serve UW Tacoma students!
