A community-engaged research project at UW Tacoma is the subject of an in-depth story by KIRO 7 News reporter Alison Grande.

The report profiles ‘Mujeres Latinas Apoyando La Comunidad,’ or ‘Latinas Helping the Community,’ a group of mothers in Tacoma with children who have asthma. Meeting regularly for several years, they learned and taught each other how to ameliorate asthma-producing conditions in their own homes, then they created educational materials so they could share their learning within their community.

Robin Evans-Agnew, Associate Professor of Nursing & Healthcare Leadership, coached the group. Together, Evans-Agnew and several of the mothers, along with UW Tacoma Assistant Professors Rachel Hershberg and Ariana Ochoa Camacho, and Julie Postma from the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, co-authored an academic article describing how they created a health assessment tool to address asthma-producing conditions in child care provider environments.
