Furman honored by Commission on Global Social Work Education
Social Work professor Rich Furman is the 2012 recipient of the Partners in Advancing International Education award from the Council on Social Work Education.

The Council on Social Work Education's Commission on Global Social Work Education has announced that Dr. Rich Furman, professor in UW Tacoma's Social Work program, will receive the 2012 Partners in Advancing International Education (PIE) Award.
The PIE Award recognizes the contributions of partners in the advancement of conceptual, curricular and programmatic innovations in education for international social work. Furman will be receiving his award, recognizing his achievements in international social work education, during the commission's annual program meeting in November 2012 in Washington, D.C.
Furman received UW Tacoma's distinguished research award in 2011. He has published over 100 scholarly articles, books, and book chapters. His most recent books include Social Work Practice with Men at Risk, Transnational Social Work Practice, and Social Work Practice with Latinos: Key Issues and Emerging Themes. His main areas of research are men at risk and applied masculinities, social work practice with transnational populations, and the use of the arts and humanities in social work practice, research and education. He has conducted research, practiced, volunteered, taught and consulted on social work education in Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Cambodia.
Furman joined UW Tacoma in 2008 and served as director of the Social Work program for three years.
