Being well-informed is the first step to helping you remain calm and safe during an emergency.
Being prepared is critical, especially when an emergency or disaster arises. Anticipating and planning for emergency response minimizes possible injuries and property damage during a campus-wide emergency, and eases resumption of normal business activity.
While Campus Safety & Security is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies, members of the UW Tacoma community should use the available resources to learn about potential hazards and how to prepare for them.
CAMPUS PREPAREDNESS
- Subscribe to UW Alert and keep your account up-to-date to receive text and email emergency notifications, including inclement weather updates
- Review the UW Tacoma Staff and Faculty Workplace Violence Prevention and Readiness Training from October 30, 2015
- Learn the assembly point (AP) for your building on the UW Tacoma Evacuation Map
- Includes locations of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and emergency phones
CLASSROOM AND DEPARTMENTAL PREPAREDNESS
- Campus Safety & Security offers consultations and presentations to all UW Tacoma departments. This includes services such as workplace assessments, emergency preparedness drills, guest speaking and curated resources for your area. Complete a request form to connect with us. If you do not see a topic you would like covered, please use the available space to describe your specific support needs.

- Departments should maintain readily-accessible First Aid supplies appropriate for the work environment
- First Aid and CPR Training is available through EH&S or you can contact Campus Safety for local training recommendations.
- EH&S Building Emergency Procedures and Resources provides all UW departments with editable quick reference guides and templates to respond to emergencies on campus.

- If you are concerned about walking through campus alone or after business hours, Campus Safety Officers are available to escort you to on-campus destinations any time, while the Downtown Tacoma Partnership safety team is available for off-campus locations.
