The University of Washington Tacoma (UW Tacoma) Professional Development Center (PDC) announces a new professional development scholarship opportunity presented by SEKISUI Aerospace. The SEKISUI Aerospace Emerging HR Professional Scholarship will provide $1,000 scholarships for four students in the PDC’s Certificate in Human Resources Management program. The goal of the scholarships is to support professional growth in the HR profession, especially for students who are making a career change or who are early in their HR career.
The scholarship is an evolution of SEKISUI Aerospace and UW Tacoma’s collaborations with the Washington State Society for Human Resource Management, a state-wide human resources professional association. In addition to the award, each scholarship recipient will meet with SEKISUI Aerospace’s Senior Director of Human Resources, Linda Moseley. “It absolutely warms my heart that this has come to fruition,” states Linda. “It is about providing mentorship, encouragement, and support for success for emerging HR professionals.”
Saralyn Smith, Program Development Manager for the PDC’s Certificate in Human Resources Management, is excited about this combination of financial and non-financial support: “Professional development programs don’t usually qualify for financial aid, so scholarships are an important way that we can expand access to these career-building opportunities. Additionally, mentorship and making industry connections before or as you are transitioning into a new field can have an enormous impact on your success.”
Applications for the SEKISUI Emerging HR Professional Scholarship are open through August 31, 2022. Interested applicants should complete the online application form, including a brief candidate statement. Priority will be given to applicants who are new to the HR field or are making a career change, as well as to applicants who are not receiving educational funding from their employer.
