Autumn 2024-2025 Elections
Nominations are currently closed for elected positions within the Association. Any professional, classified or library staff member at UW Tacoma is eligible to be nominated. The open positions include: Vice-Chair, Treasurer, At-large Classified Staff Representative, At-large Librarian Staff Representative, and At-large Professional Staff Representative. Description of these positions are below. Please consider nominating a colleague or yourself!
Nominations
All staff members are encouraged to consider nominating themselves or a colleague! To nominate someone, please complete our online nomination form. Please note that all nominations must be supported/seconded by another individual. The nomination form will ask for the name of a second staff member who supports your nomination. Additionally, all nominations must be accepted by the nominee and the nominee may be asked to provide a short statement regarding their candidacy (to be included in the election ballot).
Standing Committee Chairs
Candidates for these positions are voted in by the elected officers. If you or someone you know is interested in one or more of these positions, please email uwtstaff@uw.edu.
- Staff Connections Chair (One Year Term)
- Lead the Mentoring Committee. The mission of the Mentoring Committee is to facilitate, through mentoring, the transition of new staff members into the UW Tacoma community.
- Awards & Recognition Committee Chair (One Year Term)
- Lead the Recognition Committee. The mission of the Recognition Committee is to administer all award and recognition processes for the UWTSA, including the campus Distinguished Service Award.
- Events & Professional Development Chair (One Year Term)
- Lead the Events & Professional Development Committee. The mission of the Events & Professional Development Committee is to plan and host social and professional development events for the membership, as a means to encourage staff unity and promote professional development.
Board Positions
Chair
The Chair directs all Executive Board affairs and serves as the spokesperson. They also serve as a member of the Chancellor's Cabinet and the Chancellor's Budget Advisory Committee.
The expected commitment of the Chair position is 2-4 hours per week.

Vice-Chair
The Vice-Chair serves as a member of the Executive Board and assists in leading the Association. The duties and responsibilities of the Vice-Chair include:
- Assuming the responsibilities of the Chair in the Chair’s absence
- Overseeing and coordinating all election processes (including elected Officers, Committee Chairs and Assembly Representatives)
- Overseeing and supporting all UWTSA committees
At the end of the first year, the Vice-Chair assumes the role of Chair for a year, if they are willing. These responsibilities include:
- Directing all affairs of the UWTSA
- Serving as a member of the Chancellor's Cabinet to represent staff
- Serving as a member of the Chancellor's Budget Advisory Committee to represent staff
- Chair the Executive Board and Staff Assembly
- Act as spokesperson for the Association
The expected commitment of the Vice-Chair position is 2 hours per week.
Treasurer
The Treasurer serves as a member of the Executive Board. The duties and responsibilities of the Treasurer include:
- Manage the UWTSA budget, including collecting and disbursing all UWTSA funds
- Report on UWTSA financial statuses at least once a quarter
The expected commitment of the Treasurer position is 2 hours per week.
Secretary
The Secretary serves as a member of the the Executive Board. The duties and responsibilities of the Secretary include:
1. Record the proceedings of all UWTSA meetings.
2. Distribute meetings to the general membership.
3. Coordinate and update the UWTSA website.
4. Coordinate the UWTSA email account.
The expected commitment of the Secretary position is 2 hours per week.

At-large Classified Staff Representative
The At-large Classified Staff Rep. serves as a member of the Executive Board. The duties and responsibilities of the At-large Classified Staff Rep. include:
- Support the activities of the UWTSA and its committees
- Serve in an advisory capacity to UW Tacoma Leadership
- Approve staff representatives for campus-wide committees
- Vote and provide feedback on items of interest for the UWTSA
The expected commitment of the At-large Classified Staff Rep. position is 2 hours per week.
At-large Library Staff Representative
The At-large Librarian Staff Rep. serves as a member of the Executive Board. The duties and responsibilities of the At-large Librarian Staff Rep. include:
- Support the activities of the UWTSA and its committees
- Serve in an advisory capacity to UW Tacoma Leadership
- Approve staff representatives for campus-wide committees
- Vote and provide feedback on items of interest for the UWTSA
The expected commitment of the At-large Librarian Staff Rep. position is 2 hours per week.
At-large Professional Staff Representative
The At-large Professional Staff Rep. serves as a member of the Executive Board. The duties and responsibilities of the At-large Professional Staff Rep. include:
- Support the activities of the UWTSA and its committees
- Serve in an advisory capacity to UW Tacoma Leadership
- Approve staff representatives for campus-wide committees
- Vote and provide feedback on items of interest for the UWTSA
The expected commitment of the At-large Professional Staff Rep. position is 2 hours per week.

12/2023 Elections
Elections for the 2024 Executive Board was held during the month of December 2023.
11/2023 Bylaws Voting
This was a vote on a proposal to change the UWTSA By-Laws. The primary changes included the objective and purpose being revised, the Terms of Office being updated, an update of ex-officio members, the combining of the Professional Development & Events Committee Chair positions, an update to the all-staff general meeting, and the removal of the Unsung Hero Award. The total staff participation was 43 votes, of which 43 voted in-favor and 0 voted against.

Elections for the 2021 Executive Board was held during the month of December 2020.
10/2020 By-Laws Voting
This was a vote on a proposal to change the UWTSA By-Laws. The primary changes included the transformation of the Staff Assembly to three At-large voting positions that represent Classified, Professional, and Librarian staff. Additionally, Professional Development Chair and Committee was officially added to the by-laws. The total staff participation was 97 votes (27% of staff), of which 95 voted in-favor and 2 voted against.
8/2016 By-Laws Voting
This was a vote on a proposal to change the UWTSA By-Laws. The primary changes included the creation of the Staff Assembly, adjustments to Officer titles and responsibilities, and minor edits to timelines for voting and elections. The total staff participation was 132 votes (40% of staff), of which 124 voted in-favor and 8 voted against.
