Name: Stephon Harris
Unit: New Student & Family Programs
Hobby: First and foremost ice cream! I’ll then sprinkle in trying other new food, family time, a comedic show or movie, physical fitness, music, new shoes, getting to the Oregon coast as much as possible and teaching basketball skills to kids. After all of that, find time to build Magna-Tiles.
Favorite Place on UW Tacoma campus and Why: I would have to say the middle of campus and the staircase. A great connecting spot where fun conversations emerge, check-in with people you haven’t seen in a while, good people watching and… if you’re up for it, the stairs are a great cardio work out!

Stephon’s leadership has made a positive, lasting impact for centering students in orientation programs. Through student interviews, applying user-centered design approaches to communication plans, chairing the NSEOF Student Advisory Council, and working with student staff to shape the programs they’re implementing, his creativity in engaging student voices has greatly improved student satisfaction with their orientation experiences. He has also built broad coalitions of campus stakeholders that surface divergent thinking and have greatly complexified the ways we consider the needs of different students. Stephon is recognized as a compassionate leader that students trust and colleagues enjoy working with.
