Career and Social Mobility is dedicated to fostering socioeconomic mobility, especially for students who have faced social, structural and economic barriers. Through innovative programs, students not only access and complete their degree programs but also prepare for meaningful careers that ensure economic security and personal growth. By integrating career and social mobility, students acquire the skills, credentials, and opportunities necessary for upward socioeconomic movement.
Recognized as the #1 regional institution for social mobility in Washington, UW Tacoma Career and Social Mobility (CASM) offers career education for all students and tailored support through First Generation Programs, Champions Program, and Husky Post Prison Pathways. These initiatives foster a sense of belonging and purpose while promoting students' exploration of possible futures and careers.The CASM team works closely with students to build agency, confidence, and social capital, ensuring they are well-equipped to navigate post-graduation life. The team also works with facutly and staff to build capacity and awareness of strategies that promote student success inside and outside of the classroom.
CASM also engages the broader community by partnering with organizations to offer micro-internships, financial wellness programs, peer support programs, and career planning resources. Through initiatives like the Purpose Pipeline and the FLIGHT Program, students gain holistic support that extends beyond academics, helping them build a strong foundation for long-term milestones.
