Most professional health programs will require students to have gained experience in their chosen field before applying. Students should look for opportunities to shadow a professional, volunteer at a healthcare facility, engage in community service, and/or work in the in the area they are interested in. It is important to start these activities as soon as possible in order to learn as much as you can about healthcare and to be a competitive applicant.
It is up to each student to find these opportunities and the following is a list of some local hospitals and clinics that have volunteer and shadowing programs. Keep in mind this resource is only a starting place. There are many other facilities that will allow students to participate in clinical experience, volunteer experience, and summer enrichment opportunities.
