The University supports the principle that it is the responsibility of the students, faculty, and administration to work cooperatively for the attainment of the University’s educational goals in the extracurricular, as well as the academic life, of the institution. In line with this principle, the Center for Student Involvement requires that student organizations involve at least one faculty and/or staff member as an advisor in their organizations. Student organization advisors are a critical component in the success of the student leaders and the RSO itself. Your willingness to share your time, expertise and ideas is much appreciated and makes a big difference in the lives of students and their experience here at UW Tacoma.

Resources for RSO Advisors
- Be familiar with RSO resources and policies
- RSO Advisors are asked to encourage the passion of their Registered Student Organizations, which may mean an Advisor has a connection to the subject matter or topics that the organization represents. However, this is not a requirement
- RSO Advisors do not need to meet regularly with the membership, but should maintain a connection with the RSO Officers to ensure that the organization is concentrating on their efforts. Although RSO Officers should and can use the Center for Student Involvement to verify policies, the Advisor should remind students of this resource to ensure everything is completed correctly
- RSO Advisors are only expected to be present at events should they occur outside of standard work hours, from 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday. When students submit events for times and days outside of this time, they will receive a request to know if their advisor will be present at the event
- If an advisor is unable to attend an event, they may ask another UW Staff or Faculty member to be present the program instead. This responsibility cannot and should not be provided to student employees.

RSO Advisor Agreement
In order to serve as an official advisor to an RSO, advisors must complete an "RSO Advisor Agreement." This document provides structure and expectations to what it means to be an RSO advisor. Reviewing, signing and returning this form is part of the RSO's registration process and must be completed before an RSO's registration can be approved. The form must be completed each year that an advisor is serving in the role.
Please forward this link to your advisor and have them read through and agree to the guidelines.
