The Student Civic Leadership Awards recognize outstanding student leaders at Washington Campus Coalition member campuses for their work in civic engagement and social entrepreneurship. Nominations for the 2025 awards are now open.

Winners will be advanced for consideration for the Governor’s Student Civic Leadership Award. Learn more about the Governor's Award at Washington Campus Coalition's page.
Individuals nominated will also be considered for the 2025 UW Tacoma Gift of Service Award.

2021-22 Recpients
Student Civic Leader: Andre Henderson - BA in Social Welfare '22, Minor in Global Engagement;
Henderson was selected by Chancellor Lange for this year's Student Civic Leadership Award for his extensive background in civic service and leadership with a focus on social justice, community engagement, advocating for formerly incarcerated individuals and breaking to School-to-Prison Pipeline. His continued hard work has not gone unnoticed, as he was also the recipient of this years’ Washington State Governor’s Award - learn more about his work here!

Four student fellows spent this academic year working alongside Dr. Christine Stevens ands Dr. Chis Beasley to research Food Insecurity and the Prison-to-College Pipeline.
Dr. Christine's fellows worked to explore developing leadership skills in addressing the sociocultural systems of food insecurity at UWT and Pierce County and developing innovative strategies to address food justice issues facing our campus and community.
Dr. Chris Beasley's fellow gathered formerly incarcerated students from across the state of Washington for a one-day online summit. At the summit, the students identified common values and goals as well as next steps for continuing organizing efforts. Michelle helped pioneer this work that has continued since the summit ended.

Emerging Student Civic Leader: Mikel Priddy - BA Environmental Sustainability '20;
Recognized as a civic leader in the making who is beginning to take initiative on campus and/or community organizations while striving for positive change, Priddy was selected by Chancellor Pagano to receive this award for her exemplary work in Housing and Food Insecurity.
Outstanding Student Civic Leader: Augustine Canales - BA Social Welfare '19; MSW '21
This designation is for a more experienced student who has effectively and meaningfully collaborated with their campus for positive change. As someone deeply committed to his engagement projects while continuously showing the motivation and promise of someone aspiring to long-term civic engagement in his community, Canales was selected by Chancellor Pagano to receive this award for his exemplary work in Breaking the School-to-Prison Pipeline
These awards were established by Washington Campus Compact in order to recognize and support students in higher education who are dedicated to addressing critical needs across the state.
