Internship Program Admissions
Briefly describe in narrative form important information to assist potential applicants in assessing their likely fit with your program. This description must be consistent with the program’s policies on intern selection and practicum and academic preparation requirements: |
Psychological & Wellness Services (PAWS) prefers applicants from APA and CPA accredited doctoral programs in counseling or clinical psychology. At the time of application, applicants must be in good standing in their program, have completed three years of doctoral study, have passed comprehensive exams, and have proposed their dissertation. Before the start of internship, applicants must have completed all doctoral coursework. PAWS prefers applicants who have experience conducting psychotherapy with adults, intake interviews, group therapy, and outreach. Coursework in supervision and experience providing supervision are also preferred. UW Tacoma is an urban-serving, highly diverse, primarily commuter campus; applicants must demonstrate experience or genuine interest in working with diverse populations and a dedication to their own growth in cultural competence and humility. PAWS prefers applicants who recognize and show interest in the cultural nuances of working with our “majority-minority” student population and embrace the intentional model of therapy used at PAWS. |
