Formerly MySSP, TELUS Health provides UW students with 24/7/365 access to free, real-time, confidential mental health support. TELUS counselors are licensed mental health therapists with experience supporting the unique challenges faced by college students and are familiar with UW Tacoma resources. Students may also access TELUS at any time, day or night, for crisis support using a web browser chat function, the TELUS Health app, or via phone call.
The UW Tacoma’s Student Health Services partner is now TimelyCare, a virtual telehealth care service designed specifically for college students. Through TimelyCare, UWT students have access to a range of free on-demand and scheduled healthcare services, 24/7/365. Students register once and log in with their UW Net ID and password via Single Sign On at timelycare.com/uwt or through the TimelyCare app found in the Apple Store or Google Play. Insurance is not required to use services and services are completely free.
TalkNow is a feature within TimelyCare that provides free, confidential, on-demand, 24/7/365 emotional support to talk about anything, including anxiety, relationships, depression, and family- and school-related stressors. No appointment is needed for TalkNow.
There are times when the best way to work on personal change and understanding is within a group setting. PAWS offers group therapy services each quarter, and all groups are confidential. Groups may vary by quarter. Students can sign up for group therapy by emailing uwtpaws@uw.edu or calling 253-692-4522.
The University of Washington Tacoma offers free advocacy and support for students affected by sexual assault, rape, relationship violence, domestic violence, stalking, sexual harassment and other related experiences. Advocacy is a safe and confidential starting point for any student affected by these issues. Meeting with an advocate will not automatically lead to any kind of investigation by the university or the police.
The UW Tacoma confidential advocate provides compassionate and empowering support and can help you explore your rights and options, and get you connected to resources. All decisions to pursue next steps, if any, are entirely up to you. You do not need to make a formal report to receive support from an advocate and your experience does not have to be related to the UW to get UW-based support.
Opioid overdose can happen fast – in seconds. Naloxone is a drug that can reverse an opioid overdose, even while it’s happening. NARCAN is a brand name medication of a single dose of Naloxone, set up as a nasal spray, intended to help rapidly reverse an opioid overdose. NARCAN was designed for people with no medical training. It is easy to use, safe to use even if opioids are not present (if you are unsure of an opioid overdose specifically is happening), works nearly instantly to revive someone during an overdose, and is available over the counter at most pharmacies. Access NARCAN on campus via Student Health.
A variety of free safer sex supplies are available to students through the Condom Order Form and the Free Condom Dispensers. Dispensers are located in the men’s and women’s restrooms in the Tioga Library skybridge level floor, in addition to the CEI all-gender restroom (room 140H). Through the Condom Order Form students can access internal and external condoms, lube, nonlatex condoms, specialty condoms, dental dams, and more.
