The 2022-23 preinternship starts with orientation at the beginning of September, 2022 (specific days depend on coordinating preinterns’ schedules; at least 15 hrs/wk is expected and 3 days/wk are preferred just for this period of time) and ends Friday, June 9, 2023 with the close of the spring quarter. Preinternship includes the September orientation plus autumn, winter, and spring quarters. This position is considered voluntary and thus is unpaid and is not benefits-eligible. Preintern trainees are expected to work 15-16 hours per week, with the exception of Washington State-recognized holidays that fall during their ordinary working days. Trainees may not see clients on holidays.
Absences should be rare and only in the case of illness or personal emergency. If possible and desired, trainees may make up missed hours by rearranging their schedules, but may not see clients outside the hours of 8am to 5pm. An absence for the purpose of defending a dissertation is considered professional development. Likewise, PAWS staff provide flexibility around the time of internship selection, recognizing the possibility that preinterns may need time away for interviews. Otherwise, all academic activities are expected to be scheduled around the preinternship experience.
