Criminal Justice Internship Prerequisites and Application Requirements
Prerequisites
- Criminal Justice major
- Seniors and Juniors (both on campus and online students)
- Completed one of the following classes with 2.0 grade: TCRIM 371, 361 or 365
- Overall 2.0 GPA
Application requirements:
- Submission of unofficial transcripts
- Reference from a criminal justice or social work faculty member
- Completion of Learning Agreement with internship supervisor
What is the Criminal Justice Internship course?
The Criminal Justice Internship course (T CRIM 498) is aimed at providing students with an opportunity to learn through experience while receiving academic credit. The course is limited to seniors and juniors, with seniors getting priority registration.

Relevant internships might include the following areas. The internship coordinator will support you in identifying specific organizations to approach about an internship.
- Federal, state or local police agency
- Pre-trial, probation, parole
- Adult or juvenile corrections
- State or federal court
- Criminal or immigration law
- Juvenile justice
- Appropriate private security
- Non-profit agencies which provide support to victims; witnesses; and the accused
- Other relevant entities that provide support to the criminal justice system such as emergency management organizations, forensic laboratories, medical examiner’s offices, etc.
T CRIM 498 is limited to 20 students, so it is imperative that you apply as early as possible. You apply in the quarter before you want to do the internship. For example, apply in:
- Fall for a winter quarter internship - Winter 2025 TCRIM 498 Tasks and Due Dates
- Winter for a spring quarter internship
- Spring for a fall quarter internship
All applications must be complete and submitted three weeks prior to the first day of the quarter in which you want to do the internship.
