Welcome to the Writing Center!
Our staff is here to support you in all types of writing! The writing center in TLB 2 is open to students, faculty, and staff.
Meet Our Staff
Our writing center staff has professional staff members and student writing tutors representing a variety of majors. Graduate students or undergrads working on upper-level assignments, applications, personal statements, creative writing, or disciplinary citation styles may find it helpful to work with someone with a similar background.
Read more about our consultants' backgrounds here.
How can I meet with a writing tutor?
We use WCOnline to schedule all writing appointments. We are appointment-based but welcome walk-ins. If you arrive without an appointment, we will be happy to schedule you for our next opening. Click the "Make an Appointment" button to see our online schedule.
During the academic year, graduate students can also access our Grad Writing schedule to work with a professional staff member or student writing tutor with graduate writing experience.
Multilingual writers can work with any tutor. Our English Learner Specialist, Kelvin Keown, especially enjoys working with multilingual writers.
You’ll need to quickly create an account to book an appointment, then upload any necessary information about your assignment to the appointment box. See our FAQs for more details.
Here is a video on how to make an appointment:
What types of writing appointments do you offer?
Face-to-Face: Sit down with a writing tutor in person during our open hours. Face-to-face appointments are especially good for brainstorming and talking through ideas.
Written Feedback: Written feedback appointments are asynchronous, so you do not need to be present. Upload your paper to the appointment box and access the tutor’s written feedback afterwards. Get more information about written feedback appointments here.
Zoom: To meet with a tutor when you can’t be on campus, connect by clicking on their Zoom link in the appointment box. Get more information about Zoom appointments here.
How can I get the most out of my consultation?
- Include your assignment instructions, prompt, rubric, or a description of the assignment and audience with your appointment.
- For written feedback appointments, specific questions will help the tutor address your concerns.
- Come in early and often. Writing is a journey, not a destination!
